This YouTube video clip shows the British progressive rock band Marillion performing one of my all time favorite rock ballads. The song 'Kayleigh' is one of the epic British rock ballads of the 1980s. It comes from the 1985 album ‘Misplaced Childhood.' I have clear childhood memories of listening to this song at the age of eight or nine and trying to understand the lyrics. I like this song better than many other rock ballads because Marillion released it when I first became fully aware of music.

The song 'Kayleigh' is about regretting the fact that you ruined a past relationship. I think most of us will regret losing somebody we love because of foolish behavior at some point in our lives. Fish, the band's front man, wrote the song as an apology to several of the women he'd dated in the past. He says he wrecked many relationships because he was obsessed with his career.

After this song reached the number 2 position in the UK charts, the name Kayleigh became popular in Britain. In fact, I have a 21-year-old cousin called Kayleigh. My uncle named her after this song.

While watching this Marillion video clip today I laughed because it's so dated. Many of the videos of 1980s rock ballads look decidedly old fashioned now. The bass player's hideous mullet hairstyle is especially funny.

If you like old rock ballads you should hunt for them on YouTube. Rock ballads like ‘Kayleigh' make you conjure the past and, at the same time, give you a good laugh.
